Welcome to Thomasminde ♥️ We, this is my husband and I + our four children + our surrogate grandfather, who spends most of the year with us. We also have four cats, three dogs, two pigs, two ponies and an Ardennes cold-blooded horse. We are planning to get more animals, but we still need to make some preparations. We all live right by the sea in North Jutland and are surrounded by forests. Our farm was in a deep slumber, but we are bringing it back to life with a love of nature. Self-sufficiency, forest gardening, permaculture and species conservation are our top priorities. The animals we plan to keep are threatened with extinction, and we want to support their conservation. The breeds we intend to keep are of Northern European origin, so that the animals are also suited to the climatic environment. Our horses are intended for activities such as carriage driving, logging/forrest work and agricultural work, and we want to train and further educate them in 2026. The day begins with feeding our animals and mucking out their stables. Daily animal care and health checks. Depending on the weather and season, we are busy building fences and enclosures, repairing stables and other structures, cutting trees, reforesting the forest, mowing lawns, erecting Benjes hedges, planting trees, shrubs, flowers, herbs and vegetables, maintaining pastures, maintaining machinery, harvesting and processing, and haymaking. Our accommodation consists of a comfortable touring truck and a caravan. The truck is a self-contained living unit with a kitchen, bathroom and washing machine. The caravan is a little more rustic, but still has a kitchen and bathroom. There is also a separate courtyard bathroom with a shower. We provide fresh organic meals throughout the day, mostly vegetarian. Breakfast is at around 9 a.m., lunch at around 2 p.m. and dinner at around 6.30 p.m. Our farm is our calling, and we love being active here every day, creating new things and watching them grow. We are all nature lovers. Here, we enjoy cooking, baking, reading, and building and constructing with wood and other materials, both large and small. I am particularly interested in psychology, free learning and holistic naturopathy. I am a psychological counsellor myself and also work in the field of kinesiology and energy work. Our farm is 300 metres from the sea, so nothing stands in the way of a daily swim. The forest is only 5 minutes away. Whether cycling, hiking, jogging or swimming – everything is possible. The nearest small town with a supermarket, pizzeria and ice cream parlour can be reached on foot or by bicycle (10 minutes). Buses also run from there to the surrounding villages and towns.

Our wwoof stay at Nina's and Michael's farm was a mixed experience. It was very friendly that Michael drove us for arrival and departure in between Aalborg and the farm. The kids welcomed us, showed us around and explained about their work. They were fun to be around. The food was very tasty with homemade bread. It was said though that they were running out of bread, so we didn't feel comfortable asking for more. In general it seemed difficult to ask questions concerning for example work techniques, equipment and plans for the day or questions of interest, because often when asking, the responses were quite short, unspecific and sometimes passive aggressive behaviour like eyerolling. Instead of feeling like help we often felt like a burden, although many times we offered to help and asked how we could support them. There was a good variety of interesting tasks. We cleaned the stables, fed and walked the animals, helped harvesting hay, watered plants and pulled out weeds. The farm and nature around was beautiful with the forests, fields and the sea just a few metres away. Sadly it wasn't recommended to swim there because of jellyfish. The animals were cute, especially the cat babies. We also enjoyed the small town nearby, which was just half an hour away by foot. Sometimes during meals the atmosphere was quite heated, because there were some discussions and disagreements expressed in a sharp tone of voice, which felt kind of awkward to be around. All in all the work ...

Thank you for the feedback. During the four days, we also realised that our idea of shared farm life and Jella and Marie’s expectations of a WWOOF stay were not quite the right match. As neither of them had previous experience with farm work, many of the basics and tasks were new to them. The available work therefore required more guidance and supervision, especially during such a short stay. Many tasks on a farm simply cannot be done independently without some prior experience. Regarding the food, we would just like to add that our WWOOFers are always well provided for. There is plenty of food available, including outside our shared meals. For us, WWOOF is not only about practical help, but also about exchange, curiosity and mutual interest in farm life and the projects we are working on. It seems that both sides simply had different expectations in this regard. Sometimes people and places are just not the ideal match – and that is perfectly okay. We wish Jella and Marie all the best for their travels and hope they find WWOOF experiences that suit them better!

Our time at Thomasminde was truly the most wonderful two weeks we could have hoped for. Nina and Michael made us feel truly welcome from day one. They are such nice and kind people, and we had an amazing time with their kids—going for walks, visiting playgrounds, eating ice cream, and going on bike rides. 😌 We shared all the meals, and with a big family like this, there is always something happening, so you never get bored, although we recommend going with a friend or other Wwoofers because work is more fun that way! 😄 Nina and Michael are very passionate about the farm, and they work very hard to make their vision come true, but they still always find time to chat and joke with you, include you in family activities, and cook wonderful, mostly vegetarian meals. 😊 As for the accommodation, we stayed in a caravan in the garden, which, to us, was perfect because we had privacy, but we still spent a lot of time in the house with the family. During our stay, the work consisted mostly of working in the fields and helping out with the animals. There are no fixed hours you have to work during the day; it's really up to you when you decide to take a break. If you talk to Nina and Michael, it's possible to take a day off. 😊 We really recommend going to see Aalborg, Skagen, or just wander around the house. The sea is very close, but be careful to avoid jellyfish because when they sting you, it can hurt a bit. We are so greatful to Nina and Michael for this experience!😊

What can we say… you two were simply a perfect match for Thomasminde! ❤️🌻 From the very beginning, it felt completely natural having you here. You didn’t just help on the farm – you became part of our wonderfully chaotic everyday life. You worked incredibly hard, learned fast, saw what needed to be done, laughed with us, spent time with the kids and somehow managed to bring energy and good vibes wherever you went. 😄 We loved the conversations, the laughter, the shared meals and all the little moments in between. And yes – you proved that even hard farm work can be a lot of fun when you have the right team beside you! 💪😂 Two weeks went by far too quickly. Thank you for all your energy, your help and simply for being exactly who you are. Thomasminde’s door is always open for you – come back anytime! ❤️🌻
