Mixed Farm
Central Jutland
Kaloe Organic Agricultural College is the only college in Denmark educating people in organic agriculture. The approximately 100 students and future farmers are instructed in domestic animal care, cultivation of plants, technical skills, social studies, economics, production and management.
The school is situated in a very beautiful Danish countryside near the sea, forest and cultivated fields. Personally and collectively we highly value ecology, community, development, credibility and quality in everything we do.
The students can choose to live at the school. This creates the best possible way of forming a close relationship with each other as well as with the staff. The atmosphere at the school is very informal and the placement will be great for a volunteer who is not afraid of getting his or her hands dirty from digging up vegetables or helping out taking care of the animals in the stables.
Kaloe Organic Agricultural College has an international programme called “Global Organic Farmer”. Classes of this program consists of 50% Danish and 50% foreign students from EU countries. The foreign students live at the school together with the Danish students, creating an international environment. The staff consists of: teachers, kitchen personel, farmers, IT, leadership, workshop staff and janitors etc.
In total there is about 25 people working at Kaloe. The staff is used to dealing with intercultural as well as interlinguistic differences appearing among the young people.
The school is situated about 2-3 km from the town of Rønde (approximately 3000 citizens, various stores) next to Mols Bjerge National Park. It takes 30 minutes by bus to get to Aarhus (Denmark’s second largest city) and there are several bus lines going there.
The recruitment process is open to all, but it would be generally preferred that the wwoofer has a keen interest in learning about agriculture, organic farming and sustainability. Kaloe Organic Agricultural College will highly value a wwoofer who is not afraid of getting his or her hands dirty from digging up vegetables or helping out taking care of the animals in the stables.
The wwoofer will live and eat at the school together with the students, and will have a good opportunity to get involved in the social life at the school. The school has a large selection of student driven social activities and facilities such as choir, fitness room, table tennis, football etc. The surrounding nature gives you the possibilities of swimming in the sea (it might be cold, though), walking or biking in the forest or the national park close by. In Aarhus you can also find plenty of opportunities for cultural or social activities: art, concerts, pubs, festivals, etc.
The tasks at the school farm can include:
· taking care of livestock (pigs, sheep, cows and ducks), or vegetables. Preparing vegetables for the farm shop, seeding, planting, weeding or harvesting for instance.
There is more work with vegetables from May to October but taking care of animals is all year long.
· During the winter, the daily tasks are mostly about taking care of our animals and harvesting/preparing vegetables for the farmshop. It is also possible to be involved in other tasks like marketing of the school in different networks (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) or food preservation, like jams, sauer kraut, or cheese. The volunteer also has the option to work in the kitchen, cooking with 100% organic ingredients (a lot of which comes from the farm) preparing both vegan, vegetarian and meat dishes.
· Farming will involve establishing, maintaining, and harvesting crops as well as taking care of animals, and selling the meat. Kaloe Organic Agricultural College uses its own vegetables and meat in the organic school kitchen. The school also have a farm shop with a large variety of vegetables and meat, which the volunteer also will be involved in to preparing.
· In general the wwoofer will get the opportunity to learn about domestic animal care, animals’ and plants’ annual cycles, greenhouse and outdoor farming, becoming acquainted with organic and sustainable cultivation.

Volunteering here was a great experience. The work was very diverse – from helping with vegetables and animals to filling up the organic shop with fresh products from the farm. In the kitchen I could bake traditional Danish rugbrød and cook different meals with 100% organic ingredients, many from the farm itself. Pizza nights in the Neapolitan oven were a real highlight, where I met people from many countries and enjoyed the community. There was also free time for fun activities like ping pong and ultimate frisbee. Everything around the school is close and easy to reach by a short walk, which made daily life simple. It is a very welcoming place with good food, friendly people, and many chances to learn.

My stay at Kalø was truly amazing! Everybody from the farm employees to the interns and other volunteers were super cool and kind people. I enjoyed the tasks on the farm, especially harvesting the vegetables and being outside everyday, moving my body!
The farm and school provide a unique environment where I met many interesting people that are passionate about organic farming. The school's surroundings additionally are extremely beautiful and I enjoyed going for runs in the adjacent forest and swims in the close-by ocean.
I truly had an amazing experience and I can warmly recommend to volunteer at Kalø.

We had an amazing time at Kalo. It's a farm with a lot of different things to do and you can't get bored (we were here in winter and we took care of the cows and did some sowing for example). Gabriella and Krumme are very welcoming and friendly and we directly felt integrated. It's also very nice to have a lot of students to talk to.
Also the food served in the school restaurant is absolutely amazingggg :D and the surroundings are very nice. We definitely recommand !!

I had a really wonderful time at Kalø. I originally planned to stay 6 weeks, but I ended up staying for 4 months because I didn't want to leave. I worked on the harvest team from September to January, which mostly involved harvesting, processing, washing and packing vegetables. I also planted winter salads in the greenhouses, planted garlic behind the tractor, and did some other odd jobs (basic carpentry projects, mowing grass, cleaning, etc.). I also worked in the school cafeteria kitchen for two weeks. Gabi and Krumme lead a great team. The working hours are reasonable (8.00 - 14.00), and they are accommodating about scheduling your days off if you have a longer stay. Rooms are cozy, I had a private room in one of the student halls. And the food is amazing! Meals are served three times per day, and there are plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians. But really, the best part of being at Kalø is the social environment. I think the school attracts really nice and really cool people. And there are lots of dance parties if you like that kind of thing :) It's also easy to get into Aarhus by bus to do city-things. I would wish all my friends to WWOOF here. It's a special place.

I stayed for a month and I can only recommend the experience
I really enjoyed my time helping out the farm team and everybody was very kind and helpful.
I was made to feel very welcome. I enjoyed the work which was varied (sowing, weeding, planting, harvesting, letting the cows out to pasture, etc)
There is a lovely forest on the doorstep of the farm school which is so nice for a walk or run and I recommend going for a swim in the sea. I also had the opportunity to play volleyball with some students which was fun
It's a great environment where you can be sociable and meet new people from around the world and also have time to yourself.
You will definitely feel at home here. I really was so well looked after. It was a special month of my life
