Hello dear Wwoofers, we are a family of three and moved to Denmark in 2022 to fulfill a lifelong dream to live on a farm and near the sea. In 2023 I, Catherina, started my organic flowerfarm at Hejsager Strand. I'm currently in the process of certifying the farm being organic. Our family practices the organic way of life for more than 25 years now as it completely matches our convictions. Also part of our family are our 2 dogs, 4 cats, 20 chickens (free range and just held for the eggs and the joy they bring to us) and some other tiny pets. All our animals are from shelters or were rescued out of bad conditions. The old farmhouse has to be renovated and we are still working on it. Thats why we offer an own trailer for our Wwoofers, situated in the garden of the farm. From there you have a wonderful view at the sea and the surrounding landscape. Near the farm (about 900m) you have access to a wonderful, big, sandy beach. We often sit there and look at the sunset and with any luck we also can watch some porpoise. You also have the oportunity to live in an own, tiny bungalow on a farm nearby, it depends on you. In december 2024 we renovated our tiny farm shop, where we now are able to sell our flowers, vegetables, fruits, hand crafted goods, candles and more. We will continue with renovation projects and we like to do that in an environmental-friendly, ecological way! We would be glad if some Wwoofers with a building- and renovation-background would join us, to add their experience! But of course everyone is welcome, no matter what you like to contribute! We would also like to produce more jam and other delicious durable products as well as bread and tea. Next summer we want to start with a tiny farm-cafe, providing coffee and cake. New ideas and knowledge are also very welcome! We would love to welcome ecological interested people from all over the world to expand our own horizons! And we would also share our personal approach to organic agriculture. The typical work on the farm starts in the morning at about 8 a.m. with feeding the animals. After that we sit together for an extended breakfast, where we also are talking about the work for the upcoming day. During spring, summer and autumn we are sowing, planting or harvesting flowers (or flowerbulbs), vegetables and fruits. We also have to water a lot, as it is often very dry during the summer. Thats why we are also collecting rain water from our roofs. We don't use landscape fabric to avoid micro plastic in nature and food, thats why we have to mulch and weed a lot. Depending on the season we are sometimes going to a farmers market in Germany, as we are not far away from the german border. As we enjoy a really extended breakfast at about 9 a.m., we just take a snack at lunch time. In the evening we are always cooking a warm meal together. Usually we work for 4-5 hours each day (of course not during weekends). If you want to go to town (Haderslev being just 15 minutes by bus), you can join the bus not far from the farm or go by bicycle. There is also a bike path near the road to Haderslev and we can lend you a bicycle. Of course you can also always come with us by car, when we are going to Haderslev for shopping. Its a lovely medieval town with a beautiful pedestrian zone, a market twice a week, a wonderful park with a big lake, a cinema and a lot of nice cafes and 2nd hand shops. I also want to mention, that we are normally eating no meat, as we are mostly living vegetarian. Sometimes we "fill in" with some fish, but we are not able to provide meat regularly. We cook and eat lots of vegetables, also eggs from our chickens, regularly cheese and other vegetarian or vegan food. And last but not least we like cooking together and getting to know local meals from the regions, where our Wwoofers come from. So if you also like cooking, you are always welcome to show us some new recipes! We are looking forward to new friends from all over the world!! 🤗🌻

During my stay at the farm, I worked in the field to do weeding, lawn mowing or harvesting flowers or garlic/onions; also, I worked on a building project : a terrasse; every morning, we had to feed the animals (chickens, quail, turtle and rabbits). I was living in a bungalow and when it was time to eat we were together in Catherina's house. When we were eating, cats and dogs were arround us, take care to not have allergies. The cats could come on our legs and they liked to be pet. Usually, we were eating two meals per day : the breakfast and the dinner ; also, at 3 or 4 o'clock, we had sometimes an ice cream. If I needed something, I just had to ask Catherina. For example, I wanted to go to the supermarket with them and buy something to be able to cook with the right ingredients. This happened because I asked to cook sometimes, it was not part of the work. Usually, Catherina told us the day before about what we were going to do the next day. It can depend on the weather. Moreover, in our spare time (from monday to friday), I stayed in the bungalow in case Catherina or Peter needed my help. During the week-end, I could take a bicycle to visit the surroundings, take some fresh air or go to the sea. When it was raining a lot, I was staying in the bungalow watching Youtube or Netflix, or even reading a good book.

Thank you Yanis for the detailed report, that might give a little insight for others! Concerning the cooking sessions I have to add, that we really LOVED your Galettes and Crepes!! 😍 Thank you for the recipes, we are proud to add them to our guest-recipe-book!! 💖 Thank you also for all the help you offered!! You know we didn't expect you to stay in the bungalow in your free time, but it was so fine to feel the community! We were so glad about your support and we enjoyed your visit very much!! It was interesting to talk about many different things and we would definitely welcome you, whenever you want to visit us again! All the very best to you and your lovely family!! 🤗💖🌞 Catherina

Catherina, Peter and Finn are a lovely family. They are open minded and are very willing to make things as comfortable as possible during your stay! The farm is around a 15 minute drive from the house surrounded by fields and a beautiful view of the ocean. I have to mention the youth workers on the farm who were all so welcoming and such lovely people to talk to during the work days :)) You will get your own apartment beside the house which is well equipped with all you could need, The town is a bit far but there are buses and a bicycle you can use to get around ! Overall a great place to go if you want a nature getaway 💕

I spent such a wonderful time with Catherina, Peter and Finn for two weeks! They’re sweet, welcoming and affectionate<3 They were always caring about me and checking that how I felt comfortable. I learned a lot from them! I really liked working there, I fed their cuteness animals and worked with their beautiful flowers. Also I had a plenty of free time, I usually went for a walk:) They brought me some places, Aarhus, cinema, cafe and local dinner…<3 it was a part of their family, I’ve never felt lonely! They’re the sweetest people! I’ll come back!!! Thank you so much!

The two months I spent here were incredibly fulfilling, full of learning, and truly wonderful. Catherina, Peter, and Finn all have incredible knowledge, and they were always kind and enjoyable to be around. The people I interacted with around them were also amazing. The daily work follows a routine, with occasional irregular tasks, but there was plenty of free time. Here, I was able to spent my days surrounded by beautiful flowers and adorable . During my stay, they also provided me with a very comfortable bungalow. This experience was invaluable and truly enriching. Thank you so much!
