Join us in working on an organic farm on Bjørnø - one of the smallest inhabited islands in Denmark. We are a team of passionate people running an organic/biodynamic farm with a lot of projects going on. We have a market garden, polytunnels, vegetable fields, crop fields, a farm shop, a food truck, cows, chickens, pigs and goats. As a volunteer, we offer a workday focused on our fields, market garden, greenhouse, farm shop, vegetables, and animals. In the fields and market garden, a wide variety of fruits and vegetables need to be harvested, washed, and packed. Weeding must be done, seeds sown, and plants planted. The sea air must be breathed in, and team spirit celebrated. In the greenhouse, we nurture and care for young plants, and harvest and prune tomatoes. Everything is done within beautiful and well-maintained surroundings, and we place great value on working properly and tidily, so that both we and the plants can keep our focus in the right place. Our farm shop must also be neat and presentable, brimming with goods from the beds. The vegetables must be taken care of and presented—in the shop and to our customers—from their very best, freshest, and most beautiful side. Daily life in the garden also includes work with cattle and chickens, and our goats and pigs. The animals must have water, food, and be well cared for. There’s room for spontaneous helping hands, as we are a far-reaching organization, which also includes grain fields, a food truck, guided tours, and events. All in all, we offer a varied daily life, rooted in classic farm life, with a rich diversity in crops and methods. We work biodynamically and without pesticides. You’ll get your hands in the soil, in biodynamic preparations, nettle fertilizer, vegetables, berries, and good manure. We offer a bed in our cozy apartment in a four-winged farmhouse shared with like-minded people. The apartment contains a shared kitchen, shared bathroom and three bedrooms. And a lovely courtyard. In total we can host 5 volunteers at a time, and we are open to groups/couples. Simple breakfast will be available, lunch with the entire Økobo team, and dinner which you can heat and serve yourself. On the weekends you are responsible for your own food. You can go to Faaborg by Ferry (17 min) to do your grocery shopping, or buy basic groceries from the farm shop (although the selection is quite limited) Even though Bjørnø is a small island, there are a lot of places to see. You can explore the island, go swimming in the ocean, use the sauna, chill on the beach, hang with the animals and explore the nature and wildlife. The island is connected to Fyn by a ferry, which sails multiple times a day. The crossing takes approximately 17 minutes, and takes you to Faaborg which is a cute little town with cafés, beautifuld old districts, and shopping options. From Faaborg you can catch connections to Odense and Svendborg, multiple small islands in South Funen archipelago (Sydfynske Øhav) and Svanninge Bakker (Fyns largest forest and nature-area).
