Zealand
We are a school for children with special needs, which has established an ecological farm and lifestock.
We live 5 km. from Roskilde and 35 km. from Copenhagen.
We are situated in a former tuberculoses hospital close to a bigger forest and near by Roskilde Fjord.
We have an ecological apple plantation, a bigger plot with ecological vegetables for own production and two greenhouses. We have beekeeping, horses, alpacas, goats, sheep, pigs, chicken and ducks. Besides our livestock we have dogs and cats.
The nature around the school, the husbandry and ecological gardenfarming serves as a pedagogical platform for our students. Some of them have autism and others ADHD and others without diagnoses. We have around 35 students and 40 employees.
We have a group of young people living at the school. This group has a social life together - eat together and there is a bookclub one evening pr. week.
We grow many kind of vegetables for own production at the school. during the summer and the autumn we are self sufficient with most vegetables.
In the garden we grow cabbage, strawberries, beens, squash, watermelons, peas, carrots, potatoes, salads and more. - In the greenhouses we have tomatoes, cucumbers, melons etc. And apples from our plantation.
We have startet a plot with permaculture for potatoes and are going to develop it further with other crops.
Our gardener will teach about the garden farming and permaculture. And our beekeeper will teach about beekeeping which you are welcome to take part in. We have 4 beehives.
You will also learn about and take part in keeping and feeding the animals. We have horses, alpacas, pigs, goats, sheep, chicken and runner-dugs (who eat the snails)
An average day would mainly consist of taking part in then gardenfarming and the livestock keeping. There will also be time for studies.
It will be possible to visit other farms and take part in courses with other schools or organisations, who has ecological farming.
At the school there is a corridor with rooms, kitchens, bathrooms etc.
You will get your own room. Here lives a group og young people - employees, students in saving up, teacher trainees and volunteers.
You will be part of this grope which has a social life together. Breakfast and lunch you will eat in the dining room of the school where also students and employees eat.
Dinner will be eaten together with the others who live a t the school. You will take part in cleaning and dishwashing as everybody else who lives at the place.
The weekends are off except for four times pr year where wee have building weekends where parents, students and teachers will meet and make maintenance, pick appeals from our plantation, sling honey from our bees etc.
The school has a orkester with practice every week.
Together with refugees from Ukraine we meet for arrangements with dinner and singing peace songs.
The school takes part in some culture and sport events where you also will be invited.
For those who live at the place there is arranged a bookclub every week. In summer time volleyball is an option. Some times there will be a presentation about things going on in the world like the conflict in Palestine, it can also be a movie wee would like to see together.
Wee would prefer to have two WWOOFers in the periode from April to October, as this is the productive month.
We also would like to have WWOOFers for a periode up to 6 month. But 2-3 month is also an option.
